History |
Applied Colloids was formed in 2005 to commercialize its unique in-situ technology for nanocomposite materials. Applications for this technology have been found in cosmetics, binders, and adhesives. Work is progressing toward the commercialization of this nanotechnology in the Applied Colloids laboratories in downtown Minneapolis.
This technology differs from other nanocomposite formation methods in that the nanoparticles are formed "in-situ" within the polymer and wax matrix materials, versus other methods where nanoparticles are synthesized prior to incorporation in the matrix and then blended into it by various techniques.

The Applied Colloids technology avoids the agglomeration and extra processing that occurs with current nanocomposite techniques, yielding materials with improved properties and performance. This is accomplished by the addition of a custom material which first "dissolves" in the polymers or waxes and creates a secondary, self-forming, dispersed nanophase within the matrix.
